TRAINING TIPS · PROGRAM GUIDE · 4 MIN READ
Your dog needs help. You’re ready to invest in training. But should you learn together in private lessons, or give your dog a more immersive start with board and train?
The best fit depends on your dog’s needs, your schedule, and how you’ll keep the training going at home. Here’s how we approach that conversation at Dogi-Fi in Pompano Beach.
The quick answer
Private lessons: you practice alongside your trainer and build skills in your everyday routine. Board and train: your dog stays with the trainer for structured practice, followed by coaching that helps you carry those skills home.
When private lessons make sense
Private training can be a good fit when you want direct coaching and can practice between appointments. We can work on leash manners, engagement, place, recall foundations, and household routines while helping you understand the timing behind each skill.
You want to learn how to communicate clearly with your dog.
You can make room for short, consistent practice sessions.
Your goals involve situations you can safely practice at home.
Picture this: we practice a calm doorway exit together. You repeat that same routine before your walks during the week. The lesson becomes part of real life.
When board and train makes sense
Board and train offers a more concentrated training environment. It can suit owners looking for an immersive foundation and dogs who benefit from a consistent daily routine. The program still needs to match the individual dog; age, health, temperament, behavior history, and comfort away from home all matter.
At Dogi-Fi, the recommended 3-week board and train includes a customized training plan and three private owner transfer lessons. Advanced obedience and off-leash skill development depend on your dog’s readiness and agreed goals. See current programs and pricing.
The part both programs need: you
A dog can learn a skill with a trainer and still need help using it with a different person or in a different setting. Owner coaching, clear cues, and follow-through connect those pieces.
Before choosing a program, ask: What will I practice? How will we measure progress? What happens when my dog struggles? What support is included after training?
Three questions to help you choose
What is the main goal? Be specific: calmer walks, fewer accidents, or settling while guests visit.
What can you realistically practice? Choose a plan that fits your household.
What does your dog need? Reactivity, fear, bite history, and specialized service-dog goals require an individual assessment.
